Bashundhara Eye Hospital celebrates World Glaucoma Week

Dhaka: Like every year, on the occasion of World Glaucoma Week, Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute organized a procession and discussion meeting.

On Monday (March 11) morning, a procession was held in front of the Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute in the capital’s Bashundhara residential area under the theme ‘Eksange Hath Dhari Glaucoma Mukt Vishwa Gari’.

At that time, Prof. Director of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute and President of Vision Care Foundation. Saleh Ahmed, Professor Dr. Md. Monyarul Islam, Dr. Anthony Albert, Dr. Jerin Parvin, Dr. Majumdar Golam Rabbi, Dr. Akhtar Ferdowsi Jahan along with all the officials participated in the procession.

Associate Director of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute and President of Vision Care Foundation Professor Dr. Saleh Ahmed announced 25 percent discount on glaucoma investigations from March 10 to 16 on the occasion of the day.

Meanwhile, Dr. Saleh Ahmed said, in case of glaucoma, the pressure in the eye increases and damages the optic nerve and other things inside the eye. Glaucoma is more common in people over 40.

Dr. Glaucoma is a ‘painless disease’ (painless disease). Saleh Ahmed said, it slowly increases the pressure in people’s eyes and blinds the eyes. People who have eye pain in glaucoma can easily come to the doctor. But in people who have no pain, glaucoma acts as a silent killer. And it is called ‘Chronic Open Angle Glaucoma’. The optic nerve of these patients dries up at some point. And when they come for treatment it is too late.

He further said that Glaucoma is one of the main reasons for blinding people, so Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute has taken this initiative courtesy of Aristovision to create awareness about it. We are asking for everyone’s cooperation.

Dr. at the event. Akhter Ferdowsi Jahan said, Glaucoma is a silent killer. This disease does not always have symptoms. This disease also occurs in children. Everyone should see a doctor at least once a year for a glaucoma test.
